The Multicolored Eggs

a henhouse with multicolored eggs

It was Easter Sunday morning on Old McDonald’s farm and Red the rooster had overslept!

Normally he was the first one up, crowing to rouse the farm from its slumber.

Red poked his head out of the cozy chicken coop and what he saw made his eyes nearly pop out of his head.

Scattered all across the barnyard were brightly colored eggs of every hue – pink, purple, blue, green, yellow and more.

Why on earth were his hens’ eggs multicolored, he wondered?

These eggs were amazing. They seemed to almost glow in the early morning light.

He turned his gaze back to the kaleidoscope of colored eggs littering the yard. Something didn’t add up.

Red hopped down from the coop and began pacing around the yard, eyeing the eggs skeptically from every angle.

He ruffled his feathers and let out a confused “cock-a-doodle-doo?”

He takes another look at the eggs, takes another look at the hens, takes another look at the eggs, takes one more look at the hens.

He thinks about it for a minute.

Then he walks across the barnyard and starts laying kicks into the peacock.
