Tom sat nervously in the sterile examination room waiting for some very important medical results.
After a long and anxious wait, Dr. Simmons entered the room, his expression unreadable.
Tom braced himself for the verdict, unsure of whether to expect good news or bad.
“Well Tom, I have both good news and bad news for you today,” the doctor began solemnly, clasping his hands together.
Tom felt his heart rate spike.
“Uh oh, okay…what’s the good news?” he asked tentatively.
Dr. Simmons took a deep breath:
“The good news is…you have 24 hours left to live.”
Tom’s jaw dropped in stunned silence as the words sank in.
“The good news is I have 24 hours left to live?” he repeated in disbelief. “How is that good news?!”
The doctor held up a hand.
“Now, now, let me finish. The bad news is…I should have told you this yesterday.”
