Seventy-Five Flights of Stairs

It had been a long, exhausting day of travel for Jim, Scott, and Alex as they finally arrived at their hotel. Tired and weary, they approached the front desk to check in, only to be met with some unwelcome news.

“I’m terribly sorry, gentlemen,” the receptionist said, “but the elevator is broken. You’ll have to take the stairs up to your room on the 75th floor.”

“Seventy-five flights of stairs?” Jim exclaimed, his face falling. “That’s going to take forever!”

Scott let out a resigned sigh.

“Well, we’d better get started then. The sooner we get up there, the sooner we can rest our weary bones.”

As the trio began their long, arduous trek up the seemingly endless stairwell, Jim suddenly perked up, a mischievous grin spreading across his face.

“You know, fellas, I have an idea that might make this climb a little more bearable.”

“We should each take turns doing something to pass the time and keep our spirits up. I’ll tell jokes for the first 25 flights, then Scott, can sing songs for the next 25, and Alex can finish us off with some of his famous sad stories for the last 25 flights.”

Scott chuckled. “Sounds like a plan! Anything to make this less of a chore.”

And so, Jim’s witty one-liners had them chuckling as they climbed the first 25 flights.

Scott’s melodious tunes helped lift their weary spirits for the next 25 flights.

Finally, it was Alex’s turn, and the somber tales of heartbreak and tragedy he wove had his companions fighting back tears.

By the time they reached the 74th floor, the trio was utterly exhausted.

With one more flight to go, Alex pulled out the saddest story of all:

“Uh, guys?” he said, “I think I left the room key at the front desk.”
